Davido Shares How His Absence Affected the Music Industry

Award-winning Nigerian artist, Davido, has taken a walk down memory lane, reflecting on his humble beginnings as a performer.

The Grammy-nominated singer recalled how, back in 2011, he skipped school to perform in Ibadan. Over a decade later, he now headlines sold-out shows as part of his 5ive Alive Tour, which has included major cities across Nigeria Ibadan among them.

Sharing the memory on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Davido wrote:

“In 2011, I skipped school to perform in Ibadan. Asa, Peju, B Red, and Sina picked me up from Babcock, and we drove to join the Lynxxx and Friends Tour. I had no idea it was going to air on Soundcity, and when my pops saw it, I got in so much trouble.

14 years later, we destroyed the stadium. The 5ive Alive run across Nigeria has been one for the books.”

The singer, who has performed to massive crowds and collaborated with several top artists throughout the tour, also used the opportunity to urge his peers to invest in their homeland and give back to their communities.

“To my peers, let’s build back home and give back to our roots. Big love to all our sponsors for backing this historic tour,” he added.

Davido’s 5ive Alive Tour will continue with upcoming shows in Abuja and Lagos, before he jets off to Atlanta for a special performance at the State Farm Arena on November 20th, ahead of his birthday celebration on the 21st.

“Abuja and Lagos up next, but next stop is ATL for my birthday, State Farm Arena on November 20th,” he concluded.
