Some members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday held a peaceful protest at the United States Embassy in Abuja, calling on the international community to help protect Nigeria’s democracy.

The protesters submitted letters to the US Embassy, European Union complex, and the Ministry of Justice, urging intervention to prevent what they described as a drift toward a one-party state.

They accused the ruling party of intimidating opposition members and undermining the judiciary.

The protest comes amid deepening internal crises within the PDP, following the suspension of key officials. National Chairman Umar Damagum and some NWC members suspended Samuel Anyanwu, while Anyanwu’s faction retaliated by suspending Damagum and others, further escalating the leadership feud.
