The Lagos State Police Command has declared activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore wanted for allegedly attempting to incite public disorder following the demolition of houses in Oworonshoki.
Commissioner of Police Olorundare Jimoh said Sowore ignored repeated warnings not to mobilize protests against the Lagos State Government’s demolition exercise, which authorities described as part of an urban renewal initiative.
Despite the caution, members of Sowore’s Take It Back Movement reportedly held a peaceful protest on Monday. Security operatives dispersed the demonstrators with tear gas, though Sowore himself was said to be absent.
Speaking to journalists, CP Jimoh accused Sowore of planning to block the Third Mainland Bridge and cause chaos in the city.
“He has put plans in motion to obstruct movement on the bridge, which is a serious offence. We will not allow that to happen. We are closing in on him, and wherever he is, we will get him,” he stated.
The police boss also alleged that Sowore arrived in Lagos from Abuja but stayed away from the protest site.
“He didn’t come down because he is afraid. We have it on video,” he claimed.
A heavy security presence was later observed across key parts of Lagos, including the Third Mainland Bridge, as authorities worked to prevent further protests or disruptions.
