  • Kanu told the court he would personally handle his legal defense to have full control over his case.

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has announced that he will personally handle his legal defense going forward.

During the latest court sitting at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Kanu’s lead counsel, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), formally withdrew from representing him. Agabi informed the court that his client had chosen to take charge of his legal matters directly.

Following the withdrawal, Nnamdi Kanu addressed the court, confirming his decision to act as his own lawyer for the time being. He said he wanted to take full control of his defense strategy as his trial continues.

The development marks a major shift in Kanu’s long-running legal battle, which has drawn both local and international attention. His decision to represent himself is seen as an assertion of confidence and control amid ongoing court proceedings related to charges brought against him by the Federal Government.

Kanu’s next court appearance is expected to further clarify how he plans to manage his defense without a lead counsel.
