The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike, which began on October 13, 2025, over unmet demands by the Federal Government.

According to ASUU’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, the decision followed the National Executive Council meeting held around 4:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.

The strike was over issues including:
– “Payment of withheld salaries: three and a half months’ salary arrears owed to lecturers.”
– “Promotion arrears: unpaid promotion arrears spanning over four years.”
– “Renegotiation of 2009 Agreement: review and implementation to improve funding, welfare, and working conditions.”
– “Revitalization funding: funding for public universities to improve infrastructure.”
– “Release of third-party deductions: payment of withheld cooperative contributions and union check-off dues.”

ASUU recently issued a one-month ultimatum to the Federal Government to meet its demands, while the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) also gave a similar ultimatum in solidarity with ASUU and other tertiary institution unions.
