A disturbing incident occurred at Central School Enugwu Akwu Achi, Oji River LGA of Enugu State, where a teacher allegedly locked a 4-year-old pupil inside her office as punishment.
The teacher reportedly told the Primary One pupil to kneel in her office after school hours, locked the door, and went home with the keys. The child remained trapped from about 2 p.m. until 10 p.m., when his parents and community members, after hours of searching, broke into the office.
Eyewitnesses said the boy was found “terrified and exhausted,” sparking outrage across the community. Residents described the act as “wicked and inhumane,” demanding the teacher’s arrest and dismissal.
Oji River Chief Security Officer, Nnaemeka Anyalebechi Radica, confirmed he had taken up the case and vowed that “justice will be served.” He added that preliminary findings point to “gross negligence and child endangerment.” Authorities say disciplinary measures are already being considered.
