- The United States has warned Nigerian politicians and government officials that corruption will attract visa restrictions, stressing that even high-profile figures are not exempt.
- The US Mission in Nigeria said the measure is aimed at promoting accountability, deterring malpractice, and strengthening good governance, amid rising concerns of financial mismanagement among top officials.

The United States has warned Nigerian politicians and government officials that even “high-profile” individuals involved in corruption may face visa restrictions.
In a statement on Monday via its official X handle, the US Mission in Nigeria stressed that corruption “knows no borders or limits on accountability,” adding that barring access to visas is a tool to promote transparency and deter malpractice.
The embassy highlighted recent reports of alleged misuse of public funds by some governors, noting that poor fiscal priorities erode public trust.
The move comes amid concerns over financial mismanagement involving top officials, with activist Omoyele Sowore recently accusing FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and his family of corruption.
The US, which has previously imposed visa bans on Nigerians undermining elections, reiterated that restrictions remain a key instrument for advancing accountability and good governance.
