Keep a low profile. Avoid flashy lifestyles or flaunting wealth – Edo Police PRO educates Nigerians

  • Edo State Police spokesperson, SP Joel Yamu, has advised Nigerians to maintain modest lifestyles and avoid displaying wealth to reduce the risk of criminal attacks.
  • He warned that flashy living, especially on social media, makes people easy targets, and urged citizens to stay vigilant, report suspicious activity, and prioritize personal safety.

The Edo State Police Command has urged Nigerians to adopt modest lifestyles and avoid flaunting wealth as part of measures to stay safe amid rising concerns about insecurity.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Joel Yamu, gave the advice while addressing journalists in Benin City. He stressed that maintaining a low profile can go a long way in reducing vulnerability to criminal attacks.

According to Yamu, many cases of robbery, kidnapping, and targeted attacks often stem from criminals profiling individuals who openly display affluence. He warned that flashy lifestyles, particularly on social media, expose people to unnecessary risks.

“Keep a low profile. Avoid flashy lifestyles or flaunting wealth. Criminals are always watching, and the moment you make yourself an easy target, they begin to trail you,” he cautioned.

The police spokesperson also urged citizens to be conscious of their movements, avoid late-night outings when possible, and quickly report suspicious activity to security agencies.

He further assured the public that the Edo State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property, noting that community cooperation is key to winning the fight against crime.

Yamu concluded by appealing to residents to prioritize personal security and remember that prevention is better than cure.
