- The decision is based on issues with travelers overstaying their visas.

Qatar has implemented new visa rules that prevent unmarried Nigerian men from obtaining tourist or transit visas, citing repeated incidents of travellers overstaying their visits.
The Ministry of Interior of Qatar announced that tourist and transit visas will now only be available to women or families. Male applicants will be eligible for these visas only if they are traveling with their families.
Under the revised regulations, all applicants must provide proof of a confirmed return ticket as well as verified hotel reservations for their visa to be processed. Additionally, only accommodations in five-star hotels will meet the requirements for visa approval.
The ministry explained, “Due to recent cases of overstaying, tourist and transit visas will now require a booked return transfer and confirmed hotel stay. Applications will only be accepted from female travellers or families. Unaccompanied male travellers are no longer eligible. Visa approval will only consider five-star hotel bookings.”
These new rules apply to both fresh applications and those already in the approval pipeline, meaning Nigerians currently awaiting visa decisions will also be impacted.
