Anambra State Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the immediate arrest and prosecution of operatives of the Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade involved in the recent shooting at the Onitsha Main Market.
According to reports, the incident occurred near Emeka Offor Plaza, where OCHA Brigade officials allegedly opened fire on traders during an operation, leaving at least one person dead and several others injured.
Reacting to the development, Governor Soludo condemned the actions of the operatives and described the shooting as unacceptable. He directed that the officers be arrested, investigated, and handed over to law enforcement agencies, including the police and Department of State Services (DSS), for further action.
The governor further assured that the state government would cover the medical expenses of all victims injured in the attack while also promising that justice would be served.
Soludo emphasized that his administration would not tolerate any form of recklessness, lawlessness, or abuse of power by state task force officials.
The Onitsha shooting has sparked outrage among residents and traders, with many calling for a total overhaul of the OCHA Brigade, which has long faced criticism for alleged highhandedness in enforcing state laws.
