Isaac Fayose Under Fire for Saying Nigeria Belongs Only to Hausa and Yoruba

  • Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has stirred controversy after declaring that Nigeria belongs only to the Hausa and Yoruba, excluding the Igbo from the country’s dominant groups.
  • His comments have sparked backlash, with many accusing him of fueling ethnic division, while some argued he was highlighting Nigeria’s political reality.

Isaac Fayose, younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, has stirred heated reactions across the country after claiming that Nigeria belongs exclusively to the Hausa and Yoruba ethnic groups.

In a viral video, Fayose dismissed the long-held notion that Nigeria’s unity is built on a tripod of Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba. According to him, the Igbos have been sidelined and should not be counted among the nation’s dominant groups.

He bluntly stated: “They said Nigeria belongs to Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba, but that’s a lie… take out that Igbo, stop including them because it’s a lie.”

His remarks have drawn widespread condemnation, with many accusing him of promoting ethnic bias and undermining national unity. Critics warned that such statements could fuel further division in an already fragile nation.

However, a section of Nigerians backed his assertion, describing it as a reflection of the country’s political reality, where power and influence are often concentrated in the hands of the Hausa and Yoruba.

The controversy has continued to spark debates online about ethnicity, inclusion, and the future of Nigeria’s unity.
