The Delta State Police Command has declared a manhunt for Victor Ojei, popularly known as “Wong Box,” a self-acclaimed human rights activist, after he allegedly attacked staff of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) with a cutlass.

Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the incident occurred on May 29 when BEDC staff attempted to disconnect Ojei’s property in Asaba over an outstanding bill of ₦4.8m. “The suspect… rushed to them and attacked them with a cutlass, insisting that they must reconnect his compound,” Edafe explained.

In a video, Ojei was heard shouting: “Why will they disconnect my house? You don’t know where you came to? Did you ask questions? I go cut una!” He allegedly ordered them to reconnect his electricity, called for “an iron” to “burst their head,” and threatened: “I go cut you, and nothing go happen. I am Wong Box of Delta State… I am a politician.”

One of the BEDC staff, a pregnant woman, reportedly fell during the altercation and was hospitalized for over two weeks.

Edafe said Ojei was initially arrested but released on bail and has since absconded. “The command will ensure the suspect is rearrested and brought to justice,” he added.
