BREAKING: Uganda Accepts to Host Migrants Rejected by US

Uganda has agreed to accept migrants denied residency in the United States, following pressure from Washington.

A senior foreign ministry official confirmed the deal on Thursday but gave no details on the number of arrivals or terms of stay.

Foreign Affairs Permanent Secretary, Vincent Bagiire, said on X: “The agreement is in respect of Third Country Nationals who may not be granted asylum in the United States, but are reluctant to or may have concerns about returning to their countries of origin… it is a temporary arrangement.”

Uganda, already hosting over a million refugees mainly from South Sudan and the DRC, assured it is prepared to manage the resettlement process.

In other news…. The Rivers State Police Command has arrested officers from its anti-kidnapping unit for allegedly assaulting a man, Cletus Emmanuel Onyekachi.

In a viral video, Onyekachi said he and his brother were returning from a car wash when officers stopped them along Igbo Ichie road. After checking his papers, they noted his tinted glass permit had expired and demanded he drive to the station.

He claimed the officers requested ₦1 million for his release, but he refused, offering only ₦20,000. The officers allegedly became violent when they saw him trying to make a call, assaulting him, his brother, a friend, and a female passenger.

Police spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the officers have been arrested and detained.
