Ibom Air: Comfort Emmanson Remanded in Kirikiri Until October 6 Over Assault and Property

Comfort Emmanson, the passenger at the centre of a viral in-flight altercation aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been ordered to remain in custody at Kirikiri Correctional Centre until October 6.

The order came on Monday from Magistrate O.O. Salami of the Ogba Magistrate Court in Lagos, shortly after Emmanson was arraigned on a five-count charge by the police, including assault and wilful damage to property.

According to the charge sheet, Emmanson allegedly shouted at flight crew members, verbally abused them, and refused to disembark after landing — an offence under the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Byelaw, 2005. She was also accused of slapping a crew member, hitting another passenger with her slippers, damaging an aircraft curtain worth $2,500, and tearing a N110,000 braided wig.

The confrontation, captured in videos now circulating online, reportedly began before take-off in Uyo when Emmanson refused to switch off her mobile phone as required by safety protocols. Ibom Air stated that another passenger eventually turned off the phone, prompting Emmanson to react angrily.

Upon arrival in Lagos, she allegedly confronted and physically attacked the purser who had asked her to comply, leading to her being removed from the aircraft and handed over to the police.
