Nigerian music sensation Rema has set a new record on Spotify with his debut album Rave & Roses (Ultra), becoming the first African body of work to cross the 3 billion streams milestone on the platform.

The album’s massive success was largely fueled by its hit single Calm Down, particularly the remix featuring American pop star Selena Gomez. That version alone previously made history by becoming the first African song to reach one billion streams on Spotify.

Together, the original and remix versions of Calm Down account for over 2 billion of the album’s total streams. The remaining 20 tracks on Rave & Roses (Ultra) contributed just under a billion streams combined.

On the list of most-streamed African projects on Spotify, Rema’s record-breaking album is followed by South African singer Tyla’s self-titled debut, which has amassed over 2 billion streams.

Other notable African albums that have crossed the 1 billion mark include Burna Boy’s African Giant and Love, Damini, Wizkid’s Made in Lagos: Deluxe Edition, and CKay’s CKay the First.
