David Umahi Appeals to the South-East to Support Tinubu in 2027

South East will give Tinubu their votes because of Second Niger Bridge – Gov. Umahi

Nigeria’s Minister of Works, David Umahi, has advised the South-East region to abandon any presidential aspirations ahead of the 2027 general elections and instead throw their full support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.

Speaking through an official statement released on Monday, the former Ebonyi State governor emphasized the need for political unity and strategic alliances. According to him, President Tinubu has demonstrated true leadership through inclusive governance and infrastructure development across all regions, including the South-East.

Tinubu’s Administration Praised for Infrastructure Projects

Umahi expressed strong confidence in the current administration’s commitment to nation-building, particularly through infrastructure investment. He pointed out that several road and bridge projects in the South-East, previously abandoned by past governments, have now been revived under Tinubu’s leadership.

“The president has shown fairness and national interest in his distribution of infrastructure,” Umahi noted.

He criticized individuals promoting what he described as “premature political ambitions”, arguing that they are turning a blind eye to the tangible progress being made.

Ministry of Works Takes Action Across All Zones

To showcase the government’s achievements, Umahi revealed that all zonal directors in the Federal Ministry of Works have been mandated to visit project sites—both ongoing and inherited. The aim, he said, is to provide Nigerians with accurate documentation of development efforts under President Tinubu.

“People need to see the real progress. The facts are on the ground,” he added.

These efforts are expected to counter what Umahi described as misleading narratives circulated by opposition voices and online publications that misrepresent the administration’s performance in the South-East.

A Call for Strategic Political Alignment

H3: South-East Urged to Avoid Sentiment-Driven Politics

Umahi cautioned the South-East against allowing bitterness or ethnic sentiment to influence political decisions. Instead, he encouraged leaders from the region to build stronger political alliances with other parts of Nigeria.

“If we want to produce a president someday, we must first support others. No region can do it alone,” he said.

He further argued that the path to the presidency for the South-East requires patience, maturity, and collaboration rather than confrontation or isolation.

‘Tinubu Must Get 90% South-East Vote’ – Umahi

In a bold statement, Umahi said that President Tinubu deserves at least 90% of the South-East’s support in 2027. According to him, such overwhelming backing would solidify the region’s relationship with the presidency and lay the groundwork for future political dividends.

“We must not be deceived again. It is time to think smart, not sentimental,” he declared.

Infrastructure as a Tool for Unity

David Umahi emphasized that Tinubu’s balanced approach to infrastructure development is a clear sign of a unifying agenda. By initiating and sustaining key projects across all six geopolitical zones, the administration is fostering national cohesion and addressing long-standing developmental disparities.

Projects in the South-East include:

  • Road reconstruction and expansion
  • Bridge rehabilitation
  • Rural infrastructure support

These efforts, Umahi believes, should inspire loyalty and strategic support from the region.

Umahi Warns Against Political Disunity

The Minister concluded with a stern warning to South-East political leaders and stakeholders. He urged them to avoid internal divisions that could weaken their influence in national politics.

“If we fight ourselves or turn against the national interest, we lose relevance. We must unite behind a common purpose,” Umahi stressed.
