Nigerian artist and Martell ambassador, Davido, has found himself in the midst of online controversy after an old photo emerged, implying that he once pretended to have a Hennessy endorsement deal.

This controversy follows recent remarks by Davido, in which he claimed to have played a key role in pushing Hennessy out of Nigeria’s market while boosting Martell’s presence and sales across Africa.

Davido, who recently celebrated his first child’s birthday, asserted that his influence alone helped Martell achieve a 22% increase in revenue on the continent. He also emphasized that his collaboration with the cognac brand surpassed any previous endorsements in impact.

However, a social media user, @blackebony98, reignited the debate by sharing a 2018 post from Davido’s manager, Asa Asika. The post featured an image celebrating a deal with Hennessy, with a caption that read:

“Deal signed after almost a year of going back and forth. It’s official, OBO & Hennessy!”

The user accused Davido of fabricating the endorsement, suggesting it was a staged move driven by jealousy over fellow artist Wizkid’s partnership with Ciroc at the time.

He commented:

“Using the Hennessy brand to announce a ‘fake endorsement’ that was never offered to you on Instagram in 2018? All because of envy towards Wizkid’s Ciroc deal. Certified faker.”
