The third day of the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s (RCCG) 73rd Annual Convention was filled with spiritual intensity as Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the church’s General Overseer, delivered a compelling message titled “Overcome Yourself.”
Speaking at the Redemption Camp on Wednesday, Pastor Adeboye drew from Proverbs 16:32, reminding worshippers that the most profound form of victory is self-mastery. “He that ruleth his spirit is greater than he that taketh a city,” he quoted, emphasizing the importance of confronting and overcoming one’s own weaknesses.
In his sermon, he shared a five-point guide to living as a permanent overcomer, encouraging Christians to gain control over their senses, speech, behavior, and desires.
“Train your ears. Faith comes by hearing the word of God. But fear also comes through what you hear. It’s not how much you listen, but how well you listen,” he advised.
Pastor Adeboye cautioned against indulging in negative media, encouraging his audience to focus on the Gospel, which he described as the “true Good News.”
He also challenged the crowd on their perception: “Victory doesn’t depend solely on what you see but on how you see it. Are you looking at the mountain, or at the One who existed before the mountain?”
Touching on the power of the tongue, he stated, “What you say is what you will have. Your mouth exposes your faith. Stop complaining, praise God instead. Use your words to declare His will and to cast out demons.”
He further advised Christians to be mindful of their actions: “Don’t sign false reports, don’t forge documents, and don’t touch anything unclean. Keep your hands clean and God will fight for you.”
To drive home his message, Pastor Adeboye referenced biblical figures like Moses and Solomon as examples of how unchecked flaws can limit one’s divine destiny.
“Moses was mightily used by God, but his anger cost him the Promised Land. Solomon, loved by God and full of wisdom, ended up declaring everything vanity. If you want to be a champion forever, do something about your weak point. Life is not a joke. This spiritual warfare is serious business,” he said.
Before ending the session, Pastor Adeboye shared joyful news with the congregation: 50 babies 34 boys and 16 girls had been delivered at the church’s maternity centre since the start of the convention. The announcement was met with enthusiastic applause and celebration.
The ongoing convention, themed “The Overcomers,” continues to draw thousands of participants from within Nigeria and across the globe, offering a week of worship, teaching, and spiritual renewal.
