Former presidential aide Reno Omokri has criticised former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi over claims that President Bola Tinubu has abandoned governance due to prolonged stays abroad.
Omokri reacted to Obi’s post on X, where Obi questioned the President’s whereabouts and accused him of neglecting his duties. In response, Omokri accused Obi of misleading Nigerians, insisting that Tinubu’s movements had been publicly disclosed.
He stated that President Tinubu is currently in Abu Dhabi for the 2026 Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, a trip officially announced by the Presidency. Omokri also dismissed claims that Nigerians had not heard from the President since December 2025, noting that Tinubu delivered a New Year broadcast and carried out several public engagements late last year.
According to Omokri, Tinubu visited Borno, Bauchi, and Lagos states between December 21 and 23, 2025, attended a wedding in Maiduguri, condoled with the family of Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, and later proceeded on a constitutionally permitted vacation.
Defending Tinubu’s foreign travels, Omokri argued that international trips are vital for diplomacy and investment. He cited past foreign travels by former President Olusegun Obasanjo and said Tinubu’s engagements had already attracted major investments and boosted economic growth.
Omokri concluded that Obi’s remarks were dishonest and showed poor understanding of leadership.
