In other news, A single glittery sock once worn by late pop legend Michael Jackson during a 1990s concert in France has sold for more than $8,000, a French auctioneer revealed on Wednesday, July 30.
According to auctioneer Aurore Illy, a technician discovered the sock discarded near Jackson’s dressing room after his 1997 performance in the southern city of Nimes.
The white athletic sock, decorated with rhinestones, was famously worn by Jackson during his “HIStory World Tour” and can be seen in footage of him performing his iconic hit “Billie Jean.”
Now decades old, the sock shows visible stains, and its rhinestones have yellowed with age, as displayed in photos posted on the auction website.
“It really is an exceptional object even a cult one for Michael Jackson fans,” Illy said.
Initially valued at 3,000 to 4,000 euros ($3,400–$4,500), it ultimately sold for 7,688 euros ($8,822) at the Nimes auction house.
Over the years, other Jackson memorabilia have fetched huge sums, including a glittery glove sold to a Macau gaming resort in 2009 for $350,000 and a hat he wore before his first “moonwalk” performance, which sold for over $80,000 in Paris in 2023.
Jackson passed away in 2009 at the age of 50 from a fatal overdose.
