Veteran Nollywood star Joke Silva has opened up about her long-standing marriage to celebrated actor Olu Jacobs, shedding light on how age, patience and emotional growth strengthened their bond over the years.
Speaking during a recent interview on Your View, the 64-year-old actress reflected on how their journey began and how their connection evolved into a nearly 40-year marriage.
Silva explained that their first encounter was strictly professional, taking place on stage at the start of their careers. At the time, she said she had no idea she was meeting one of the industry’s biggest names.
“Everyone knew the great Olu Jacobs was coming except me,” she recounted, noting that she didn’t initially grasp his star power.
Although Jacobs was instantly taken with her, Silva admitted her own feelings grew more slowly. According to her, it wasn’t love at first sight on her end. She also revealed that she only became aware of their significant age difference after they had started dating, as his youthful looks masked it.
“He looked so good,” she said, explaining why the gap didn’t immediately register.
Looking back on their 20-year age difference, Silva shared that being married to an older partner came with surprising benefits. She suggested that maturity and understanding helped create balance in their relationship, adding that older men often show greater tolerance in marriage.
Jacobs, who was 44 at the time, tied the knot with Silva in 1985 when she was 24. Their union, blessed with two children, has since become one of Nollywood’s most admired and enduring marriages.
