- Wizkid plans to contest for the presidency of Nigeria.

Nigerian superstar Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has stirred widespread reactions online after a recent video captured him making a surprising statement about entering politics.
The clip, which began circulating on social media on January 8, 2025, shows the “Essence” crooner announcing his intention to contest for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The video emerged shortly after Wizkid made history as the first African musician to surpass 10 billion streams on Spotify, a major achievement that drew praise from fans across Africa and beyond.
Beyond the presidential ambition, what further sparked conversations was Wizkid’s revelation that he would not be aligning with any of Nigeria’s major political parties, including the APC, PDP, or Labour Party.
Instead, the award-winning artist unveiled plans for a new political movement, which he named the Wizkid Political Party, abbreviated as WPP.
The footage, recorded in a relaxed and playful setting among friends and family, captured Wizkid saying:
“Wizkid political party. WPP. I am running for presidency in the year 20…”
He deliberately stopped short of mentioning a specific election year, ending the statement on a humorous note and leaving viewers to speculate on whether the announcement was serious or made in jest.
