Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, often known as Davido, from Nigeria, has recalled how his rich father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, once detained him, the event’s organizers, and fans.
He stated that because he skipped school to pursue music against his father’s desires, his father had arrested everyone at the event.
The singer of “Omo Baba Olowo” stated it happened early in his career.
On The Lateish Show with Mo Gilligan on Friday night, he made this claim while making his Channel 4 debut.
Davido said, “I come from a family where it’s like, education, education, business…Overtime [my decision to do music] was like a beef.
“Any show he [my dad] hear I’m performing at, he sends the police. He arrests the fans, promoters. He has a camera watching where I go to.”
The singer performed his hit song ‘Unavailable’ on The lateish Show.
David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he deserves the title “King of Afrobeats” bestowed upon him by Forbes.
He argues that the fame is no accident because he has always wanted the afrobeats genre to attain recognition in the Western world.
Davido claimed to be one of the first Afrobeats musicians to get signed by a major global record company.
In an interview with Billboard News, he was asked how it felt to be dubbed the “King of Afrobeat” by Forbes.
Davido said:
“I mean, it’s true. I have lived in both places; I have lived in America. I went to school right here too, in Alabama. I was always spreading the gospel of African culture; the food, fashion.
“So, when it was time to do music, my dream was always the crossover; ‘When will that crossover happen?’ And you know, I was one of the first to get signed by a major label.”
