Nigerian singer Lekan Osifeso Junior, widely known as Lojay, has shared that he once believed becoming a pop star would mainly give him access to a flashy lifestyle and relationships with women.
Speaking on the I Said What I Said podcast, the Monalisa hitmaker said his mindset changed after he entered the industry and realized that sustaining a successful career requires a high level of discipline, especially regarding relationships.
“There is a lot of temptation in the music industry. You will see a lot of things, but you are not meant to touch. I used to think I would frolic with a lot of ladies because there are babes everywhere. But when you have about 100 girls talking to you, that is when you need to cultivate discipline.
“I realised if you want a long career like the Big 3, you have to stay away from too many girls,” he said.
He also noted that one of his biggest surprises was discovering that many of the glamorous lifestyles he admired as an upcoming artist were not as appealing once he became part of the mainstream industry.
The singer further stated that contrary to public perception, the music industry demands a significant level of discipline, as artists are constantly conscious of their reputation and public image.
He concluded by admitting that his personal character also helped him maintain restraint compared to many of his peers, particularly in areas involving lifestyle excesses and relationships.
