Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola-Salako discusses her motives for choosing to endure her abusive marriage.
The actress, who is currently remarried, revealed during a recent interview with TVC that she saw the warning signs but was unable to leave.
That was abused even the night of her wedding, Foluke Daramola added.
The mother of two stayed in the marriage for four years despite her ex-husband abusing her constantly. She acknowledged her fear of being criticized when questioned.
“My first marriage, on the night of my wedding was when I noticed abuse. But because of what people will say… And God has already orchestrated it because my wonderful kids are from the marriage.
“When I finally decided to step out [of the marriage], people did not understand why I stepped out. But I understood that I needed to go. A lot of people did not receive it well, but if I hadn’t stepped out, if I had died there, by now I would have been a forgotten case.
“So, it is better for people not to accept my reality or my truth but I accept my own truth than for me to lose my life in the process of trying to prove to the world what I’m going through.”
Foluke Daramola Salako, a Nollywood actress, has spoken out for the first time about red flags in relationships.
In an interview with TVC Your View, Kayode Salako’s wife revealed that she lost her virginity through rape.
As a result, she developed a hatred for sex and saw it as a punishment, but her first husband didn’t care and wanted it every day.
She saw it as beatings and was always afraid to return home.
“I lost my virginity thru rape, so sex to me was punishment and the person I got married to wanted it every time. It felt like he was beating me”.
She went on to say that she saw the red flags before marrying him but ignored them.
Foluke stated that her partner was pressuring her into marriage, and because she wanted to marry because of peer pressure, she did so.
She revealed that her sim card broke on her wedding night after her husband asked her to cut it.
“When I wanted to enter my first marriage, the sign was there even though my partner was rushing me into marriage and I was like my friends were getting married. All the signs were there. Anger issues.
My first experience was on my wedding night. I got a broken sim cause I had to change to a new sim.
I saw the signs of abuse and anger but I overlooked them.
I had to stay there because of what proof would say”.
