Nigerian singer and Grammy nominee David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his hit collaboration With You featuring Omah Lay almost didn’t make it onto his 5IVE album.
Davido made the disclosure during an interview with OkayAfrica, which was later reposted by HYPETRIBE on Monday. According to him, the song failed to stand out during internal listening sessions and was not initially considered a strong contender by his team.
“Man, it’s so crazy because that song almost didn’t make the album. With You was not in anybody’s top five,” he said.
The singer explained that the track’s eventual success became an emotional experience for him, especially whenever he performed it live, knowing how close it came to being left out.
“And now look at it go. Every time I was performing it, my heart would just start beating like, what if I didn’t put this song?” Davido added.
With You has since grown into one of Davido’s most successful recent releases, earning him another Grammy nomination, topping charts, and surpassing 100 million streams on Spotify.
Davido also recounted how he found out about the Grammy nomination, noting that the news came as a surprise. He said he received the call while he was in Dubai, just days before his birthday, as he stepped out to check a car.
“They were like, ‘Oh yeah, another nomination.’ I was like, wow. Thank God,” he recalled.
Looking ahead, the singer said his attention is now focused on touring and releasing more music. He also confirmed that he will be performing at Coachella 2026, making him the only Nigerian artist on the festival’s lineup.
Davido is scheduled to perform on Saturday, April 11, and Saturday, April 18, 2026, in Indio, California.
“Going back on tour, definitely more music. I’m about to do Coachella. Big plans,” he said.
