A northern political leader has criticized Nigeria’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over the Muslim–Muslim ticket used during the 2023 presidential election campaign.
The leader claimed that the ticket was used to influence voters in Northern Nigeria and warned that such a strategy would not be accepted again in the future.
“Tinubu campaigned with a Muslim–Muslim ticket in the North, yet he cannot recite even one verse from the Qur’an,” the leader said.
He further alleged that religion was used to mislead voters during the campaign.
“They only used the Muslim–Muslim ticket to deceive Northerners. We won’t accept it again,” he added.
The Muslim–Muslim ticket, which featured President Tinubu and his vice president, Kashim Shettima, sparked widespread debate during the 2023 elections, with supporters defending it as a political choice while critics raised concerns about religious representation.
