  • Nigerian Army instructors at NATRAC, Kontagora, have alleged poor welfare, claiming they are subjected to harsh living conditions and irregular payment of their ₦5,000 instructors’ allowance despite training soldiers for deployment to the North-East.

Some Nigerian Army personnel attached to the Nigerian Army Training Centre (NATRAC) in Kontagora, Niger State, have raised concerns over poor welfare and alleged inhumane treatment by their commanding officer.

The soldiers claimed they are subjected to harsh living conditions, including lack of proper accommodation, inadequate feeding, and the regular withholding of their ₦5,000 weekly instructors’ allowance.

Speaking anonymously, the nine instructors said they have been deployed since February 2025 to train new recruits bound for counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.

Despite the importance of their role, they alleged they sleep on bare bunks without mattresses, receive poor-quality food only when trainees are in camp, and experience frequent delays in allowance payments.

The soldiers stressed that they are not asking for luxury, but basic welfare and timely payment of allowances to effectively carry out their duties.
