The moment drew sharp criticism from Nigerians frustrated with rising insecurity. A commentator wrote:
“How can they be laughing while schoolgirls are being kidnapped? This is unacceptable.”
Others defended the exchange as private and taken out of context:
“People should stop reading too much into it. It’s a private moment, not mockery.”
However, many insisted on the need for leadership empathy:
