A video showing Nigerian singer Habeed Okikiola, widely known as Portable, being taken to prison in a security vehicle has gone viral online.
Portable appeared in court on Monday at the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, facing a nine-count criminal charge brought by the police. His arraignment followed complaints filed against him, which drew significant public attention.
Oluseyi Babaseyi, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, stated that the charges against Portable include assault, theft, causing harm, and resisting arrest. The allegations stem from investigations into incidents of violence linked to the singer.
The circulating video captures Portable being transported to prison after his court appearance, sparking reactions across social media platforms.
Authorities allege that Portable assaulted his estranged partner, Ashabi Simple, as well as several police officers and other individuals at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo on New Year’s Day. Other individuals mentioned in the case include Ileyemi Damilola, Akinyanju Oluwabusayomi, Olowu Olumide, Demilade Ogunniyi, and Ebuka Odah.
Portable is also accused of stealing a Mercedes-Benz E300 valued at N12 million, reportedly owned by Ileyemi Damilola and purchased from Wally Dex Auto. Additionally, police allege that he obstructed and assaulted a female police inspector, Ogungbe Olayemi, while she was performing her official duties.
The presiding judge denied him bail, stating that the police officer allegedly assaulted must be present in court before bail can be considered. Portable was subsequently remanded in custody and later transferred to prison.
