Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen has been officially appointed as the main assistant captain of the Super Eagles, marking a significant shift in the team’s leadership ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Osimhen will serve as the primary deputy to the newly appointed captain, Wilfred Ndidi, who took over the armband following the recent international retirement of long-time leader William Troost-Ekong.

In addition to his leadership role, Osimhen has also inherited Troost-Ekong’s duty as the team’s designated penalty taker.

While senior players like Alex Iwobi (the team’s most capped active player) and Moses Simon remain core members of the leadership group—serving as additional vice-captains—Osimhen was specifically chosen as the first deputy. Sources within the camp cited his “whole-hearted commitment” and influential presence on the pitch as the primary reasons for his elevation.

In other news…. Afrobeats artiste Seun Kuti has made a serious allegation involving a prominent Nigerian family, claiming they suffered a double loss after turning to faith-based healing for a terminal cancer case.

In a video that has since gone viral, Kuti narrated that the family sought spiritual help after medical experts overseas reportedly informed them that the woman’s illness could no longer be treated.

He stated that the patient was taken to the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) camp, where she underwent prayers and other religious activities, with assurances given that she would recover.

According to Kuti, despite continued prayers, the woman eventually passed away at the camp, leaving her family heartbroken. He further claimed that in the process, the family spent an estimated $250,000, motivated by hope for a miraculous healing.

The singer criticised what he described as the encouragement of faith healing in terminal medical situations, arguing that it can give families unrealistic expectations and prevent them from emotionally preparing for possible loss.

Kuti also alleged that following the woman’s death, Pastor Enoch Adeboye instructed the family to stop mourning and assured them he would pray for her revival. He claimed the family was asked to kneel beside the body for an hour while the pastor prayed privately.

He said …

“Oyibo don tell am say nothing can be done, get comfortable; it’s your time. But the woman no wan d!e na. Na Nigerian rich woman. She too hold bar. Na him dey come Nigeria, Adeboye will heal her. Dem go collect place for Redeem Camp. Adeboye pray finish..the woman come d!e inside redeem camp, the woman’s family couldn’t believe it.

Na him dey carry her body go inside Adeboye place for Redeem Camp. This was after $250,000 don go down.

Adeboye came out of his balcony, he didn’t even come down to meet them. He told them to stop crying. He will go inside to pray for her to wake up. As he pray for one hour she no wake up, e say na God call am, make them dey go house..”
