Nigerian social media commentator Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has publicly challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations concerning a business concept he shared with them.

In a recent video, the TikTok influencer revealed that he presented the EFCC with a detailed plan to launch an online platform aimed at combating scams involving Chinese manufacturers and Nigerian retailers.

While in China, VDM stated that his goal was to uncover fraudulent activities linking Chinese suppliers with Nigerian entrepreneurs. During his detention, he claimed to have shared his blueprint for fighting such online fraud with the anti-corruption agency.

He disclosed that he was collaborating with technology experts to develop an app and invited the EFCC to partner in the initiative, suggesting they could benefit from it as well.

However, shortly after his release, VDM raised concerns about attempts to frame him on criminal charges. He highlighted accusations from a woman named Princess Barbara Odoh, who alleged that he had stolen her idea to create a system designed to protect consumers from fraudulent online vendors.

VDM contested these claims, pointing out that he invested significantly in his anti-scam project during his time in China and noted that Barbara had little to no social media presence to back her claim of originality.

In recent developments, VDM expressed suspicion that the EFCC’s renewed focus on intellectual property theft accusations was linked to his bail. He challenged the EFCC to produce any records if Barbara had previously submitted a similar proposal.

He urged the commission to review their footage and clarify how he supposedly plagiarized the idea. VDM further accused the EFCC of attempting to appropriate his concept for their own gain.

In his words:

“Everything is making sense to me now, dear @officialefcc I have given you guys the blueprint of my idea which you all applauded me,the whole thing I told you was recorded in a video,it’s not a coincidence that after you granted me bail few days later you brought me back to your interrogation room to talk about intellectual theft, here is the thing if she truly gave you a similar idea few 2years ago then it was recorded I think we should play it back and compare, else I feel you guys want to st3al my idea and make money off it.”
