“Very Close To The Family”- Femi Kuti’s Remarks On Wizkid Trend Amid Seun Kuti Drama

  • A video of Femi Kuti praising Wizkid has resurfaced and gained attention online.
  • The renewed interest in the video coincides with a public disagreement between Wizkid and Seun Kuti, Femi’s younger brother.
  • The conflict involves comparisons to their late father, Fela Kuti, which has sparked social media criticism.

A resurfaced video showing Fela Anikulapo-Kuti’s first son, Femi Kuti, speaking positively about Grammy-winning artist Wizkid has gained renewed attention online amid fresh social media criticism.

The clip began trending again during the ongoing disagreement between Wizkid and Femi’s younger brother, Seun Kuti, which stemmed from alleged comparisons to their late father, Fela Kuti.

The situation has sparked mixed reactions among fans, with social media users taking sides and engaging in heated debates.

In the video, Femi describes Wizkid as someone with a close relationship with the Kuti family, noting that his true personality differs greatly from the image often portrayed online.

He also pointed out Wizkid’s long-standing support for Felabration, the annual festival organised to celebrate and preserve Fela Kuti’s legacy.

According to Femi, Wizkid has consistently shown deep respect for Fela’s contributions to music and culture, remaining dedicated to honouring his memory.

Addressing the frequent backlash directed at the singer, Femi suggested that many online critics form opinions without personal knowledge of Wizkid.

He added that the public version of the artist does not fully reflect the individual he knows privately, urging people not to judge character based solely on social media narratives or sensational headlines.

In his words: “Wizkid is like a family to me. Except if he’s not in the country. He’ll honour ‘Felabration’ he always shows up. When I see people commenting about him on social media, they don’t really know Wizkid. The Wizkid I know is very nice and humble. People don’t just understand what it means to have so many people shouting your name and expecting so much from you. The pressure is too much, the pressure on someone who has been at the top for so long is a lot, and I think he’s handling it very well.”
