Following their arrest and imprisonment, nine protesting activists and students from the University of Lagos (UNILAG) have been released by the Nigeria Police Force’s Lagos State Command.
According to Gistlover, the student activists arrested during a rally were held in a cell at the Lagos Police Command’s State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID) Yaba.
According to this platform, the Students Representative Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State, has requested the immediate release of the students jailed during the UNILAG demonstration.
In a previous report, it was discovered that some activists were arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Lagos State Command, as UNILAG students and members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NASS) trooped out to protest the school officials’ fee increase.
This platform captured the moment security officers launched tear gas to chase away peaceful demonstrators in a video.
According to SaharaReporters, after disrupting the peaceful protest, police detained an activist, Philip Olatinwoa, along with two other demonstrators.
Reacting to the arrest, the OAU student council and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, demanded the immediate and unconditional release of an activist, Femi Adeyeye, the PRO of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Giwa Temitope and the other arrested persons.
It was, however, learned that the activists and students who were detained in Room D15 were released on Wednesday afternoon.
