- Over 300 students from the Faculty of Dentistry and Dental Surgery at the University of Calabar, UNICAL have reportedly reacted to their admissions being withdrawn.

More than 300 students from the Faculty of Dentistry and Dental Surgery at the University of Calabar (UNICAL) have broken their silence after their admissions were abruptly withdrawn despite spending seven years in the institution.
The students were reportedly asked to vacate the program due to an over-admission issue that violated the quota approved by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN). This shocking development, which has sparked outrage online, was shared by user @dammiedammie35 on X (formerly Twitter).
According to reports, the directive came from the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Florence Banku Obi, who ordered the withdrawal of hundreds of students after the university admitted more students than the MDCN had authorized.
Amid rising criticism and emotional reactions, one of the affected students posted a video pleading with the public for support.
In his words: “Seven years ago, the University of Calabar admitted us into this fine institution with the hope that after a certain period, we would graduate and practice without issues. Fast forward to now they’re telling us to leave. After spending seven years, passing exams, reading, staying up countless nights trying to make this dream work we’re told to go.”
His message has struck a chord with many Nigerians, sparking sympathy and renewed calls for the university to find a solution to the crisis. Many are urging the MDCN and federal education authorities to intervene and prevent the affected students’ efforts from going to waste.
