U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, signaling an end to a 12-day conflict that has raised global concerns over the possibility of a wider war in the Middle East.
Speaking on Monday evening, Trump revealed that both countries have agreed to a phased ceasefire set to begin within six hours. Under the arrangement, Iran will observe the initial ceasefire, with Israel joining 12 hours later, culminating in a full cessation of hostilities within 24 hours.
“This is a significant diplomatic breakthrough,” Trump stated, commending both nations for their cooperation. He emphasized the importance of the agreement in averting what could have become a drawn-out and devastating war.
In a social media post, Trump wrote:
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE (in approximately 6 hours from now, when Israel and Iran have wound down and completed their in-progress, final missions!), for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered ENDED!” Trump declared.
The phased approach requires each side to honor its ceasefire window peacefully while the opposing side is active, with the final 12-hour window marking mutual de-escalation and a formal end to hostilities. Trump referred to the conflict as “THE 12 DAY WAR,” now expected to conclude without further bloodshed.
He went on to thank the leaders of both nations, crediting them with avoiding a prolonged conflict that could have destabilized the entire region.
“This is a war that could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East — but it didn’t, and never will,” Trump added.
The ceasefire announcement follows closely after Iran launched a missile strike on a U.S. military base in Qatar in retaliation for American attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. Trump stated that of the 14 missiles fired, 13 were intercepted, with the remaining one posing no significant threat.
Ending his remarks with a hopeful tone, Trump declared:
“God bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and God bless the world!”
The international community is now watching closely as both countries begin the delicate process of disengagement and de-escalation.
