An FRSC official has confirmed that a middle-aged female pedestrian was killed on Thursday night by a 40-foot trailer with a malfunctioning brake system along the Ezeiweka axis of the Onitsha-Owerri Road.
The event was confirmed to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Awka, the state capital, by Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the FRSC’s Sector Commander in Anambra.
“Eyewitnesses reported that the trailer abruptly rolled off with the driver inside while goods were being unloaded from its container. The woman was trapped when it struck.
“Awada Police and the FRSC rescue team from Upper-Iweka Outpost attempted to get a crane to lift the 40-foot container, but the victim who was trapped had already passed away.
“The trailer driver is on the run and being sought after by the Awada Police Division.”.
As of this morning, he continued, “We are still working to remove the obstruction and guarantee unhindered traffic flow.”
The sector commander expressed sympathy to the deceased’s family while cautioning drivers against breaking traffic laws.
To prevent accidents like this one, maintain your cars on a regular basis and abide by the minimal safety regulations.
He uttered the words, “Drive to save your life and the lives of others on the road.”
