A Nigerian man identified as Ade omo Ade has sparked conversation online after narrating how his family applied tough love to correct his younger sister during her teenage years.
Taking to X, Ade revealed that his sister once missed out on gaining admission into the university because she insisted she was “grown” at 18 and refused to do chores at home. According to him, the family kept receiving complaints that she would always say, “I’m 18, I’m grown,” whenever she was asked to contribute to housework.
Ade said she later secured admission into a private university, but he and his brothers decided not to pay her tuition that year because of her behavior. As a result, she missed the opportunity to start school.
“By the next year, she came back to her senses and we sorted her out. Today, she’s an OAP and doing really well,” he wrote, adding that their decision was not out of wickedness but a necessary lesson.
He concluded by stressing that, “Tough love isn’t wickedness, sometimes it saves lives.”
The post has since stirred mixed reactions, with some social media users supporting the family’s stance while others questioned whether withholding education was the right approach.
