- Reno Omokri, criticized Labour Party leader Peter Obi.
- Omokri accused Obi of making remarks that could deter foreign investment in Nigeria.
- The criticism arose from Obi’s statement regarding the Tinubu administration’s borrowing, claiming it exceeded the total of previous administrations (Buhari, Jonathan, Yar’Adua).

Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide and vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu, has accused Labour Party leader and 2027 presidential hopeful, Peter Obi, of making statements that could discourage foreign investment in Nigeria.
Speaking during a recent interview on Channels Television with Seun Okinbaloye, Omokri reacted strongly to Obi’s comment that the Tinubu administration had borrowed more than the combined total of previous governments under Muhammadu Buhari, Goodluck Jonathan, and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Describing the statement as false, Omokri said, “One of the lies he told is that President Tinubu has borrowed more than the administrations of Yar’Adua, Jonathan, and Buhari. That is a blatant lie.”
He cautioned that such remarks could have serious consequences for Nigeria’s economy, alleging that foreign investors were taking note and reassessing their position in the country.
“Foreign direct investors are watching your programme, who are making investment decisions not to come to Nigeria. There are foreign investors in Nigeria that are making investment decisions to leave Nigeria because of the lie he told,” Omokri said.
He also referenced figures from the Debt Management Office (DMO) to counter Obi’s claims, stating: “As of 2015, Nigeria was owing a total of $63 billion. When Buhari was leaving office, Nigeria was owing $113 billion. Today, from the DMO, our debt has gone from $113 billion to $97 billion, meaning that Tinubu has reduced our debt by over $14 billion.”
Omokri went further to accuse Obi of manipulating the figures by converting them to naira in an attempt to exaggerate the debt under the current administration.
The remarks reflect the growing political tension between both men as the 2027 presidential election looms.
