President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the current economic hardship will soon give way to recovery and prosperity. The President likened the ongoing challenges to the temporary pain of a “surgery” that must be endured before healing.
Tinubu gave this reassurance on Friday during the coronation of the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, in Oyo State.
Tinubu: “The Economy Has Turned the Corner”
Addressing dignitaries and residents at the ceremony, Tinubu said Nigeria had survived the threat of economic collapse and was now on a path toward stability and growth.
“To many of you here present, today I am honoured and proud to give you the cheering news that the economy has turned the corner. There is a bright light at the end of the tunnel,” the President stated.
He further explained that the pain Nigerians are experiencing is temporary:
“Your suffering is the pain of a painful surgery. But it is now returned to the moment of growth and prosperity waiting for us ahead. Thank you for your perseverance. Thank you for your endurance.”
According to Tinubu, his administration’s reforms will soon begin to yield positive results for the country.
Olubadan Ladoja Appeals for Ibadan State Creation
During his coronation, Oba Adewolu Ladoja seized the opportunity to present a request to President Tinubu. Speaking in Yoruba, the monarch appealed for the creation of Ibadan State before 2027, saying it was the top priority of his people.
He made the call shortly after receiving his staff of office in the presence of prominent dignitaries, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Governor Makinde Hails Coronation as Historic
Governor Makinde described the emergence of Oba Ladoja as the new Olubadan as a historic moment for the people of Ibadan.
“It is a great honour to join in celebrating the coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The joy and excitement that fill Ibadan today remind us of the importance of upholding our cherished traditions,” Makinde said.
