Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has shared her thoughts on Nigerian men, highlighting her admiration for their confidence and supportive nature.

In a recent interview on Way Up with Angela Yee, Starr compared Nigerian men to those from New York, praising their self-assurance and willingness to care for their partners. She added a note of caution, however, acknowledging that “men are still men.”

She explained, “Nigerian men love to take care of their women. They are very supportive of their wives or girlfriends. They are very confident, almost like men in New York. But at the end of the day, men are men it’s universal.”

This statement comes months after Starr faced criticism online, particularly from Nigerian men, who questioned whether her social media advocacy for feminism matched her off-screen personality.

Some of her critics pointed to her excitement at meeting Chris Brown and her dance video to Naira Marley’s song as examples that conflicted with her perceived feminist stance. She has also faced scrutiny over her fashion choices, which she addressed in 2023, telling detractors that they are neither her “pastor” nor her “mother.”
