A Nigerian woman, Aisha Wahab, has appealed to the public for help after being abducted by gunmen in Auchi, Edo State.
Her kidnappers are demanding ₦20 million for her release, giving her family until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to pay or face fatal consequences.
In a video circulating online, a terrified Aisha is seen with an armed man pointing a gun at her head and chest as she pleads for help.
The post accompanying the video read:
“Kidnappers force victim, Aisha Wahab, to record a video and beg Nigerians to help her raise ₦20M ransom, otherwise she would be killed. She was kidnapped at Igbira Camp, Auchi, Edo, one week ago.”
Residents of Auchi have condemned the rising wave of kidnappings in Edo, calling it a “lucrative business” thriving under government inaction.
They accused the government of failing to provide security, saying security agencies are more focused on arresting human rights activists than tackling violent crimes.
The incident follows the July 2025 abduction of two seminarians at Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary in Auchi, during which an NSCDC officer was killed. Despite a reported ransom payment, the victims remain missing.
Residents are now urging Governor Monday Okpebholo to act swiftly to end the worsening insecurity in the state.
