  • A video shared on X showed the president’s arrival in the state.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded to criticism during his recent visit to Benue State, where over 200 people were reportedly killed in brutal attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani herdsmen.

A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) captured the moment the president arrived in the state. He was welcomed by a large number of college students who lined the streets, standing in formation and singing the national anthem in his honor.

Tinubu’s visit followed growing tension and public anger in the wake of the attacks, which sparked protests across several communities. Frustrated by the government’s handling of the security crisis, some demonstrators were seen attempting to tear down the flag of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in an open show of dissatisfaction.

Speaking at a special event organized in his honor, Tinubu addressed the political backlash and the ongoing criticism surrounding his leadership. Acknowledging the hostile political climate, he stated:

“Not everybody will like you in politics. They hate me like hell, but I am here. I am the president.”

The comment quickly drew mixed reactions online, with many Nigerians taking to the video’s comment section to voice their thoughts some showing support, others expressing deep concern over the situation in Benue and the president’s response.

The visit and statement come amid increasing pressure on the federal government to tackle insecurity across the nation, particularly in rural communities affected by violent clashes.
