Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that the northern region will celebrate him if he wins the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Channels TV, Obi described the North as Nigeria’s greatest asset, citing its large population and vast arable land. However, he noted that insecurity has hindered the region’s full potential.
“We have voted for incompetence, we’ve voted for tribe, (and) we’ve voted for religion; let’s vote for competence. I want them to trust me. The biggest asset of this country is in the north, the uncultivated lands in the north. The criminality we face in the north today, I will deal with it. If I am president, the North will celebrate me. I have an idea of the problem.” he said
Meanwhile GISTLOVER recently reported that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has donated N10 million to St. John Vienney Science College, Anambra, for winning an international science debate in June 2025.
During his visit, Obi emphasized that Nigeria’s underdevelopment stems from poor investment in education, which he described as the key driver of national growth.
He said: “The biggest asset of any nation is its people, human capital. And the most meaningful investment is in education.
“No nation can develop without prioritizing learning. If oil made a country rich, Venezuela would be the richest in the world. They have ten times more oil than Nigeria. But it’s not about oil, it’s about knowledge.”
