- Minister Nyesom Wike warns politicians that endorsing the APC or President Bola Tinubu does not ensure a second-term ticket.

- Wike is conducting consultations across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

As the 2027 general elections approach, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned politicians that endorsing the All Progressives Congress (APC) or publicly backing President Bola Tinubu does not automatically guarantee them a second-term ticket.
Wike made this statement during a political meeting in Emohua Local Government Area, Rivers State, as part of his ongoing consultations across the state. He was welcomed by the council chairman, Chidi Lloyd, traditional ruler Sergeant Awuse, and other party officials.
The former governor of Rivers State emphasized that support for President Tinubu has already been politically settled and should not be considered a factor for determining who gets party nominations. He insisted that loyalty to the president alone is not sufficient to secure an automatic nomination for any electoral position.
“The question isn’t whether you support Tinubu. That matter was settled a long time ago. The Tinubu issue is no longer relevant. No one should approach me claiming support for Tinubu as a reason for getting a ticket. Who in Rivers State isn’t for Tinubu? That alone cannot earn you a nomination!” Wike warned.
His comments come in the wake of recent political shifts in Rivers State, including the defection of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and others to the ruling party, following a brief conflict and subsequent reconciliation between Wike and his successor.
