Tonto Dikeh, a popular figure in the Nigerian film industry, has once again become a trending topic online following recent developments surrounding her personal life, including her ongoing lawsuit and reported reconciliation with her ex-husband.
The actress, who is a mother of one, recently shared a reflective video where she spoke about the painful and expensive mistakes she has made in the past. In the clip, she explained that those experiences taught her important lessons and encouraged her followers to learn from them rather than repeat similar errors.
In recent weeks, Tonto has also been posting several videos of her prayer sessions on Instagram. During one of her updates, she revealed that she intends to launch a prayer-focused channel soon where she will regularly share spiritual content with her audience.
However, the actress became part of another online discussion after a sermon by Olabisi Adamu began circulating on social media. The preacher, who leads Ignite Prayer Ministry, addressed the issue of believers turning their spiritual experiences into online content.
In the message, the clergywoman criticised what she described as Christians who “monetise their repentance.” She explained that after some individuals claim to have been delivered by God, they immediately set up ring lights and cameras to document their prayers and spiritual activities for social media.
According to her, some even stop in the middle of their prayers just to check if their recording devices are still capturing the moment, all in an effort to generate online engagement and income.
She warned that believers should be careful not to become so focused on popularity and online attention that they lose the sense of privacy that should surround certain spiritual matters. The preacher also argued that such actions reveal a lack of spiritual sensitivity.
To support her point, she referenced examples from the Bible where individuals experienced transformation or deliverance but did not make a public display of it.
Following the circulation of the sermon, many social media users began mentioning Tonto Dikeh because of her frequent posts showing her private prayer moments online.
While some people agreed with the clergywoman’s viewpoint and cautioned against turning personal faith into social media content, others came to the actress’s defence. Supporters argued that sharing one’s spiritual journey publicly can also inspire others and should not automatically be criticised.
As the debate continues online, opinions remain divided on whether public expressions of faith on social media should be encouraged or kept private.
