The Diamond League podium finishers Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume received congratulations from Senator John Owan Enoh, the minister of sports development, for their wonderful performance in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
On Sunday night, Amusan, affectionately known by fans as “Tobi Express,” reclaimed her championship in the 100-meter women’s hurdles with a timing of 12.33, while Ese Brume won the women’s long jump with a leap of 6.85 meters. Serbia’s Ivana Vuketa won the gold medal.
In a statement released by his media assistant, Kola Daniel, Senator Enoh said the victory was a lovely way for Amusan to cap off a sporting season that brought tears of joy and thrills. He continued by saying that her resolve and mental toughness are admirable.
“I join millions of Nigerians globally to felicitate with Tobi Amusan on a deserved win at the Diamond League. The victory is one that will restore her confidence after the difficult ordeal she passed through this year. Even though she lost the World Championship title, she won our hearts in Budapest. I am glad that she was able to overcome all of the challenges to defend her crown for the third consecutive time.
“I urge Tobi and other Nigerian athletes to reflect on this season, applaud themselves for their hard work and look towards the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has utmost commitment to sports and the President will stand by all Nigerian athletes, who are fighting hard to represent the country at the international stage,” he stated.
In a competitive field that featured Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Kendra Harrison, and others, Amusan won the race. On the same tracks that she won last year, she secured her third straight victory.
Tobi Amusa equals Dawn Nelson-Harper’s record by becoming only the second woman in Diamond League history to win three consecutive 100-meter hurdles championships, according to GISTLOVER.
