The Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, has sentenced six Chinese nationals to one year in prison for cyberterrorism and internet fraud. Justices D. I. Dipeolu and A. O. Faji delivered the verdicts against JIA You, Wang Zheng Feng, Liu San Hua, Chen Wen Yuan, Liu Beixing, and Wen Zong Xu.
The EFCC revealed that the convicts were part of a larger syndicate of 792 suspected cryptocurrency and romance fraudsters arrested during the December 2024 “Eagle Flush Operation” in Lagos. They were arraigned in February 2025 on various charges related to cybercrime.
‘’That you LUO JIA YOU (a.k.a A. YOU) sometimes in December 2024 at Lagos, Nigeria within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, willfully caused to be accessed, computer systems used for the purpose of destabilizing and destroying the economy and social structure of Nigeria and you hereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 18 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015 (as Amended, 2024) and Section 2(3) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition Act, 2022″.
The six Chinese nationals initially pleaded “not guilty” to cyberterrorism and internet fraud charges but changed their plea to “guilty” during the court sitting on June 23, 2025.
Following the prosecution’s request, the court sentenced them to one year in prison starting from their arrest date, December 10, 2024, and imposed a ₦1 million fine on each.
The judge also ordered their deportation within seven days of completing their sentence and directed that all devices seized during their arrest be forfeited to the Federal Government.
