Jomiloju, the eldest child of the late Nigerian gospel singer Bunmi Akinaanu, widely known as Omije Ojumi, delivered an emotional tribute to her mother during the service of songs held in Lagos on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Omije Ojumi, who died on January 12, 2026, was honoured as a selfless and devoted mother who single-handedly raised her children after their father left the family. Speakers at the gathering highlighted her resilience and unwavering commitment to her children’s upbringing.

In her address, Jomiloju described her mother as a courageous and principled woman who bore the family’s responsibilities alone, ensuring her children were nurtured, disciplined, and well guided despite the challenges she faced.

She revealed that her mother’s deepest desire was to raise responsible children who would avoid repeating what she considered her own mistakes in marriage. According to her, Omije Ojumi placed strong emphasis on education, doing everything within her means to enrol her children in quality schools to secure their future.

Jomiloju recalled that her mother remained present and supportive at all times, even in the absence of their father, constantly encouraging them to live purposefully and prepare for the future.

She added that Omije Ojumi consistently taught them the values of respect, diligence, faith, and accountability, which she hoped would shape their lives positively.

In a heartfelt vow, Jomiloju pledged to uphold her mother’s legacy by taking responsibility for her younger brother, William, and guiding him to grow into the prayerful and responsible man their mother envisioned.

She concluded by stating that her mother’s sacrifices would always be remembered, assuring that she and her siblings would continue to live by the principles she instilled, in a bid to honour her memory.
