In other news… A Nigerian soldier has voiced strong frustration over what he believes is needless suffering caused by the country’s lingering insecurity, urging authorities to give troops the mandate to decisively tackle bandits.

Speaking emotionally, he explained that many soldiers on the frontlines feel drained by the constant stream of attacks, kidnappings, and displaced communities. Despite the challenges, he maintained that the Nigerian military has all it takes to crush the threats if fully empowered.

According to him, the armed forces already possess the training, manpower, and specialised units required to regain control of affected areas.

“We can end terrorism in 24 hours if we’re given the order,” he said in Hausa, adding that with proper equipment and clear instructions, troops could enter the forests and dismantle the criminal groups hiding there.

Reinforcing his point, he appealed: “Just give us the chance 24 hours is enough,” echoing a confidence shared by many personnel about the military’s capabilities.

The soldier criticised the continued rise in abductions, attacks on schools, and the fear gripping communities, despite the presence of elite units trained for high-risk operations. His comments raised concerns over why these resources are not fully deployed.=

He concluded with a passionate declaration: “I didn’t put on this uniform for show or to intimidate anyone. I wear it to defend my country from harm.”
